Christmas is always my favorite time of year.  Not only do I get to go home and be treated much better than I deserve by my parents, I also get to go out fishing with my former boss Dan.  Dan is the owner of Chagrin River Outfitters, the premier fly shop of the famous Steelhead Alley.  Dan was the best boss I could have asked for.  Not only did he double as a friend, he also paid me to talk fishing all day long.
During the winter of 2011, high waters caused flooding that took down a dam which was constructed in 1906 on the Chagrin River.  This natural disaster was a blessing for local Steelheaders.  Following the dam’s demise, the big trout that come into the river to spawn were given an extra 8 miles of water, most of which falls on public land.  While home for the holidays, Dan and I explored some of this new access and were not disappointed with what we found.
